Job Role : Consultant Neonatology
The Neonatology Department in Danat Al Emarat consists of the Neonatal Unit (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Special Care Baby Unit ), the Newborn well baby service on the postnatal wards and neonatal / paediatric Outpatients.
We work closely with our anaesthetic colleagues in the event of a child requiring PICU.
The Outpatients Department is co-located with other paediatric outpatient facilitates and covers all general Neonatology outpatients, with secondary specialised clinics in cardiology, allergy, nutrition and gastroenterology.
The Neonatology Department also provides Neonatology cover for the 24 hour clinic for those cases requiring specific Neonatology opinion.
The Neonatology Department is well supported by other specialties in Danat Al Emarat, particularly Neonatal surgery, paediatric cardiology and radiology.
Roles and Responsibilities
The prime clinical responsibility is to be accountable for the continuous care of his / her patients and. As part of this responsibility, undertake shared rota arrangements for the Acute Consultant Neonatology Rota ensuring appropriate standards of care for patients and standards of education for medical and nursing staff at all times.
Will promote and develop multidisciplinary teamwork within the speciality and will communicate effectively with all agencies and personnel involved in providing Neonatology services.
Will work together with his / her Neonatology colleagues in the further development of Neonatology services in the area, and lead aspects of Quality Improvement initiatives, audit and research.
Will be responsible for providing procedures relating to the specialty and will develop same in keeping with medical advances.
This post holder will take on Neonatal duties with general Neonatology duties. He / She will have responsibility for inpatient children admitted under their care and take part in a programme for acute Neonatology admissions.
He / She will have outpatient sessions in new and review general Neonatology as well as specific Neonatal outpatient duties.
On call will also include cover for general Neonatology and neonatal intensive care.
The post holder will be expected to undertake administrative duties associated with the care of his / her patients and to contribute to the smooth running of the department.
Play a significant role in medical education and will be expected to participate fully in post graduate teaching and promote knowledge of Neonatology amongst colleagues.
Postgraduate training opportunities include a weekly CPD approved perinatal meeting and weekly clinical teaching.
Maintaining a high level of specialist knowledge in Neonatology extending his / her professional and management knowledge and skills.
