Job Role : Trade Officer A2(l)

Duties andresponsibilities :

  • Working as part of a team and independently and under thesupervision of an experienced colleague to develop and maintainrelationships in the government and private sector.
  • Sourcing andpublishing Export Opportunities and producing export wins through aprogramme of targeted calls. Drafting sub-sector engagementstrategies and obtaining timely and accurate market information oncommercial projects while promoting UK strengths in thesector.

  • Carrying out market research on behalfof DIT and or UK companies in the UAE. The research will involvemeeting companies and or UAE Ministries and state organisations inthe UAE.
  • Part of this research will also include researching thepress, websites, and attending local exhibitions.

  • Organising receptions and other events as required bycustomers to launch their products or offices in the UAE. Thisinvolves logistical arrangements and organising guest lists andlocations, catering, etc.
  • Making arrangementsfor official visitors. These can range from Ministers, members ofthe Royal Family, and senior officials.
  • Arrangements usuallyinvolve a programme of appointments, social events, and transportand can involve a significant amount of preparation (up to sixweeks before the visit).

    Work on such visits usually requiresworking with local authorities and Government.

  • Meeting visiting UK business people and briefing on theirparticular industry sector of interest. This will includebackground on the market, advice on setting up business here, andsector-specific information.
  • Participation inthe arrangements for visiting UK trade missions, includingadministrative arrangements and contributions to briefing packs,attendance at briefings, and highlighting areas of opportunity inthe UAE to members of the mission.
  • Developpartnerships with DIT Regional Offices in the UK, DIT SectorGroups, Chambers of Commerce and Trade Associations, the localBritish Business Group and the British Centre for Business inDubai.
  • Responding to enquiries from localcompanies seeking information about potential contacts in the UKand posting export opportunities on the DIT website.
  • Visiting localcompanies in the UAE to keep abreast of business opportunities anddeveloping contacts.

  • Act as a roving staffresource in support of DIT sector leads delivering the UK componentto major events and trade fairs in the UAE (e.
  • g., Arab Health andothers). This would include everything from organising logistics,to preparing briefing and offering market access advice and sharingrelationships and making appointments on behalf of UKcompanies.

  • On occasion, attending out of hourssocial networking functions.
  • Participate inthe Embassy's emergency planning and any response to acrisis affecting UK citizens.
  • Any other dutiesas required by the Director of Department for International TradeUAE.

    Essentialqualifications, skills and experience

  • Exceptional planning and organisational skills, abilityto work independently, apply initiative, problem solve, and workunder pressure to meet multiple and changing priorities, deadlinesand objectives.
  • Ability to prioritise andmanage multiple deadlines in a fast paced environment, team workingskills, resourcefulness in solving problems.
  • Ability to work to agreed targets in terms of proactivevisits to companies and seeking Export Opportunities for UKcompanies to consider.
  • Excellent interpersonalskills. Ability to maintain a range of contacts to build effectiveworking relationships, and work closely with senior staff and theircontacts.
  • Excellent communications skills inEnglish, both written and oral.
  • Computerliteracy in all Microsoft Office packages, especially Excel, andaccurate typing and proofreading skills.
  • Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

  • Business experience in one or more of thefollowing sectors in the UAE and / or the UK : Healthcare, LifeScience, Food and Drink, Infrastructure, Creative sectors,Education, Technology, Renewables, and / or Oil and Gassectors.
  • Experience of organising events andundertaking desk research.
  • Experience ofworking in the GCC region.
  • Experience ofworking independently and in large teams.
