Social Impact is BCG’s newest and fastest growing PA, in many ways still in start up mode, though likely to reach $1B by year-end.

Our business has two parts - Climate & Sustainability and Development Impact both supported by a shared foundational infrastructure and practice management and operations team.

The Development Impact Manager joins this rapidly expanding team, bringing dedicated focus to our highest impact business line.

Agile teaming, working in sprints, comfort with ambiguity and role flexibility will be important for this role as the PA continues to scale.

Development Impact aims to contribute to progress on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in areas of most need by focusing on emerging markets (Africa, India and SEA), selling work on the world’s most pressing topics to aid agencies, foundations and governments, and investing at a 50% price point to deliver impact at scale.

Focus areas include global health and development, climate adaptation and resilience, women’s empowerment and education, employment and welfare.

As the Development Impact Manager, you will work at the intersection of business development, IP and offer development, marketing and people & operations to help accelerate our Development Impact agenda.

You will serve as a thought partner and business management support to Wendy Woods, our SI Vice Chair and Funding Development Impact campaign lead, Patrick Dupoux, our Global Development Leader, Trish Stroman, our Global Health Leader and the Development Impact cadre.

You will be working in tight collaboration with our Global Practice Management & Operations team.

Key responsibilities include :

Work with Social Impact PA and Development Impact leadership to develop and manage a business development plan, with an early focus on supporting the ongoing Funding Development Impact campaign, ensuring awareness and usage of key offers and products, packaging and promoting lighthouse client work, and ensuring the foundation for effective collaboration is in place.

Support the ongoing Funding Development Impact campaign, coordinating and prioritizing efforts across client, geographical, sector and topic teams

Work closely with Development Impact leaders to develop and disseminate priority IP, including but not limited to tier ones, SIGMA data & analytics tools, publications

  • Engage as part of a Development Impact agile team with dedicated counterparts across PAs (particularly BST, KT and ECTers), including but not limited to Addie Chamberlain, Education Sector Manager;
  • Julian Toogood, FCDO Business Development Senior Manager; Miranda Stobbs, Development Impact Marketing Manager

    Collaborate with SI PA team members to bring SI Investments, people programs, commercial marketing, thought leadership and events, and other global operations efforts to Development Impact in a high impact, tailored manner.

    Collaborate with Africa and India teams in particular to hire, deploy and develop the Development Impact team across tracks, cohorts and operating units in capability hubs.

    Will involve an evolving variety of pilots, case team supported efforts and operating models.

    Drive the expansion of the global Development Impact cadre and capability, engaging across cohorts and in training and recruiting agendas.

    Ensure alignment with broader global PA priorities, seeking to ensure high impact and high visibility for Social Impact pro bono partnerships and low bono Development Impact work.

    Engage in support of Social Impact global partners contributing to the Development Impact agenda, including but not limited to WFP and STC.

    Establish key processes, ways of working and infrastructure to support effective business development, to enable shared transparency and effective collaboration across the extended x-PA Development Impact, and to track progress against business development plan priorities

    Own and drive high impact training and engagement opportunities, including but not limited to regional meetings, road shows, internal communications

  • Helping others navigate the practice network and supporting onboarding of team members
  • Exercising judgement to contribute beyond the PA, thinking analytically through alternatives

  • Passion for Social Impact topics
  • Bachelor's degree required; Advanced degree / MBA preferred
  • 8+ Years of relevant work experience. Professional services firm (consulting preferred) with experience in account management / client development / business build, or execution of Development Impact related projects ideal.
  • Project based work with a donor, government or direct funding organizations also relevant assuming meaningful collaboration with consultants.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and entrepreneurial drive
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels and functions of the organization
  • Good organizational skills and effective management skills to manage multiple parallel tasks, ability to set priorities
  • Performed successfully in a fast-paced, global, intellectually intense, service-oriented environment with people at all organizational levels
  • Proactive, creative, self-starter
  • Able to prioritize, able to tolerate ambiguity
  • Advanced knowledge in Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Trello, Slack

    You will be part of the Global Social Impact Practice Area Management and Operations (SI PA M&O) team and will be working closely with the SI Global Practice Management Senior Director, SI PA Managers across People & Operations, Investments, Offer / Product Management and Marketing, as well as colleagues in other Practice Area roles (PS in particular).
