The Department of Chemistry at the UnitedArab Emirates University (UAEU) is seeking applications for afull-time research assistant to investigate the production of novelfructosyltransferase (FTF) enzymes from halophilic archaea.
Thesuccessful candidate will be offered a two years position inresearch project supported by a UAEU research council. Thecandidate will be involved in a project investigating biochemicalproperties of the FTF enzymes from halophilic microorganisms andsynthesis of diverse fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) using differentsubstrates.
The goal of the project is to exploit the unique natureof halophilic FTFs with the probability of producing uniquepolysaccharides for industrial applications.
Molecular biologytechniques coupled with physical techniques like XRD, MS and NMR tocharacterize the enzymatic product will be used in theproject.
Highly self-motivated candidates with Masters / M.phil inBiochemistry / Biotechnology with strong academic track record andrelevant experience in molecular biology (cloning, electrophoresis, protein purification, enzyme assays, mass spectrometry, basicbioinformatics) are encouraged to apply.
Practical experience withXRD and NMR would be advantageous.
Candidates with experience inPCR, electrophoresis, microbial cell culture, protein purificationtechniques, enzyme assays, TLC, mass spectrometry are required.
However, candidates having experience in XRD, NMR and homologymodelling would be preferred. Excellent oral and writtencommunication skills in English and ability to work well incollaborative environment with skills in networking are highlyadvantageous.
