Department Profile

The cornerstone of Morgan Stanley's risk management philosophy is the execution of risk-adjusted returns through prudent risk-taking that protects Morgan Stanley's capital base and franchise.

Risk Management protects the Firm from exposure to losses resulting from defaults by our lending and trading counterparties.

Credit Risk Management (CRM) determines risk appetite, approves and manages credit and counterparty risks on an industry, client, geography and transaction basis.

  • CRM team assigns Internal Credit Ratings to our client base; establishes and manages credit risk limits in accordance with the risk tolerance established by the Board;
  • monitors and reports on credit risk exposures on a regular basis to the Chief Risk Officer and senior management. CRM also interacts with business units to ensure that credit risk assessments are factored into business decisions.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Analyze corporates / counterparties, manage exposure, identify and quantify risk ?drivers, prepare credit memos and make recommendations

  • Analyze and identify credit risks in transactions (loans & derivatives) and understand ?the impact these have on our portfolio and appetite
  • Understand how macro-economic, market and company-specific events impact our ?portfolio and counterparty credit quality
  • Conduct client due diligence meetings to understand their strategy, financial ?performance and business requirements
  • Follow up on transaction execution : ensure loans / trades are correctly ?booked / recorded / monitored, credit terms are incorporated in term ?
  • sheets / confirmations and underlying documentation correctly developed

  • Manage counterparty limits and credit facilities exposures
  • Follow up on timely receipt of financial information from all clients
  • Ensure risk reporting systems contain timely and accurate information
  • Understand how new financial regulation will impact our clients and the business we ?conduct with them

    Skills required (essential)

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Effective communication skills, verbal and written, including concise report writing
  • Ability to work independently in a self-directed way in a collaborative, team-oriented ?environment
  • Ability to make independent decisions and support conclusions
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational capabilities including the ability to ?prioritize, multi-task and work under pressure to meet deadlines in fast-paced ?environment
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Fluency in English is required, plus another European language would be an ?advantage
  • Experience in corporate and financial institution credit analysis an advantage
  • Understanding of businesses, business models and ability to analyze key risks and ?mitigants
  • Experience in financial analysis and modelling an advantage
  • Understanding of financial products, e.g., swaps, FX, equities
  • Knowledge of loan and / or derivative documentation, e.g., LMA loan documentation, ?ISDA / CSA
