Job Role : Consultant - Endocrinology & Diabetes
The Consultant Endocrinology and Diabetes is responsible for providingservices to the Endocrinology and Diabetes patients in accordancewith Nation Hospital policy and contractual obligations.
The Consultant Physician is responsible for leading andsupervising the delivery of high quality evidenced based care;effectively and efficiently in diagnosing, managing, and treatingall patients placed under the post holder’scare.
The Consultant Physician is expected to bean example of clinical excellence within his / her specialty and toprovide leadership and training for junior medical staff.
Supports, implements, and follows all hospital,departmental and divisional initiatives, policies andprocedures.
Assists, lead and implement theorganization’s performance management systems, includingpeer review and the productivity and utilization reviewprocesses.
Participates in theorganization’s performance management system, includingpeer review and the productivity and utilization reviewprocesses.
Assists with scheduling andsupports other physicians in ensuring that adequate medicalcoverage is provided within the department at all times.
Attends departmental meetings as required.
Assist in recruitment of new medical staff whenappropriate.
Assumes other administrative orclinical duties as requested by the Head of Department.
To take responsibility for the management of patientswith Endocrinology and Diabetes conditions under his / her care orunder multidisciplinary care.
Oversees theclinical activities of the specialists and medical staff andassumes responsibility for the care they provide.
Complies with all established hospital policies regardingadmissions, daily patient care, surgical procedures, dischargeprotocols, outpatient, and follow up practices.
Practices appropriate utilization of theorganizations’ resources.
Conductthe ward rounds of patients in the areas managed by theEndocrinology and Diabetes Department.
Acceptsclinically appropriate referrals from the Accident and EmergencyDepartment, primary care, other departments, specialty clinics,walk in patients, and patients referred from otherhospitals.
Accurately documents all relevantclinical information in a clear and timely fashion in accordancewith established procedures.
Regularly reviewresults of all investigations and modifies treatment asrequired.
Liaises with other medicalspecialities and support services for additional input asrequired.
Actively participates in multi-disciplinary meetings to help plan effective, safe, and holisticcare for individual patients.
Ensurespreparation of patients for all procedures including obtaininginformed consent.
Assist with the developmentof major incident plans and related work.
Participates in and ensures the provision of out of hours(on call) coverage on a rotational basis, including evenings,weekends, and public holidays as required.
Communicates clinical information to patients and thepatient’s family and friends (with consent of thepatient) in a timely manner.
Respectconfidentiality and patient privacy, make sure that patients arenot being exploited in cases such as invasion ofprivacy.
Is aware of ethical and legal issueswhich arise during patient care.
Maintains agood working relationship with members of the staff and promotescollaboration and a team- based approach to patientcare.
Demonstrate technical skills in hands-onprocedures.
Supports and actively participatesin JCI accreditation of the hospital.
Use theconcept of Critical Thinking during theprocess of medical decision making. Document medical services in away that satisfies the requirements of third party payers (healthinsurers) and allows the transformation (coding) to DiagnosticRelated Groups (DRGs) and Current Procedural Terminology(CPTs).
