A Consultant is responsible for managing portions of large client projects or managing small client projects independently, preparing client-

ready materials (i.e. summary reports, press releases, credentials, proposals) and can quickly review and improve the work product of Project and Associate Consultants.

Consultants maintain an awareness of macro business issues impacting clients by conducting and analyzing research on a variety of client related issues.

The Consultant is responsible for independently coordinating client meetings and events. Completes client deliverables under the supervisor of an Associate Director or assigned account manager.

The Consultant is expected to demonstrate an understanding of APCO’s business practices and processes, as well as strong tactical and strategic abilities.

Consultants possess strong written and oral communication skills and the presence of a consultant. The Consultant will interface with all levels of staff and will have regular contact with staff in the client’s organization regarding project or client related issues.

DEMONSTRATING SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE AS A CONSULTANT (expected to be performed after initial period of six months)

  • Prepare customized credential packages for prospective clients, highlighting APCO capabilities, relevant case studies, and high-
  • level industry notes and observations (requiring little to no revisions by managers)

  • Draft complete proposals for client work showing strategic thought, scope or work and pricing. Works with an understanding of APCO’s tools, business model, and structure
  • Identify ways for expanding client engagement and take initiative with appropriate contacts to pursue expansion of work
  • Participate actively in internal and client meetings, sometimes leading them, offering knowledgeable observations and suggestions;
  • maintain awareness of air time and foster participation of other colleagues

  • Facilitate effective brainstorming sessions
  • Be able to maintain independent contact with client in providing service; maintain email / telephone contacts with clients as needed, without requiring a supervisor to intervene
  • Demonstrates confidence and projects the presence of a consultant in client engagements (on phone, in person, with prospects)
  • Prepare the comprehensive reports and deliverables required in the specific functional capacity (e.g, perception audits, market studies, provincial reports, etc.
  • with minimal guidance and review by managers

  • Proactively identify external meetings and trainings to attend to build sector knowledge and contacts.
  • Meets or exceeds assigned utilization targets
  • Manages and oversees the work of more junior colleagues, providing feedback and ensuring the quality of work

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS :

    EDUCATION : University degree

    EXPERIENCE : 4 - 6 years relevant experience in a consulting firm, corporation, diplomatic posting or media role

    OFFICE ENVIRONMENT : The physical abilities needed to perform the duties of this position, in addition to the office climate

  • Office environment is general office setting
  • Local travel required; some international travel may be required
