Svitzer seeks excellent Training Masters (for Rotational, Back to Back roles) to ensure that Senior Deck Officers are trained, competent and capable in the operations they are required to perform

The AMEA Region today operates over 90+ vessels and employs more than 1200 colleagues. The region has a strong growth focus with an extensive project pipeline and a defined ambition of doubling the size of the business in the foreseeable future.

As a Training Master the primary function is to assist the Regional Head of Operations in ensuring all training requirements are being met for the entire region.

This will be achieved through assessment and the execution of on-board training.

The incumbent is responsible for the training of Masters and Chief Officers in the various disciplines required on our vessels throughout the region’s operations.

Reporting to the Regional Head of Operations, the incumbent will be deployed to various geographical areas within the Asia, Middle East and Africa Region as required.

Key responsibilities

The training master’s duties will include but not be limited to :

  • Assisting the full time master implementing a safe system of work using all available means including but not limited to the Svitzer Harmonized Management System (HMS)
  • Ensure the care of contactors rules are being adhered to and implemented in an effective manner ensuring good communication with the shore managers.
  • Encourage and implement safety tours to increase the volume of proactive reporting and encourage hazards spotting to reduce the likelihood of an incident or accidents occurring in the work place.
  • Ensure the captain is using sertica to track all planned maintenance ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Facilitate training in relation to all internal courses ensuring crew understand the content of each session so they can use the information effectively within their working day.
  • Ensure timely feedback to the crew ensuring all training shortfalls are addressed and a formal training plan formulated.
  • Review the masters skills and when necessary (peer review) in relation to simulator levels one two and three ensuring the master’s skills are relevant, up to date relevant and specific to the operation.
  • Carry out OVMSA audit
  • Expected to attend training Dubai head officer prior to his on board duties ensuring a full understanding of :
  • Harmonized Management System, Sertica, Operational procedures, H2s training HUET training, Black box investigation

  • Delivery of Internal training videos
  • Ensure all internal training videos are placed on a USB and taken with him to each operation.
  • The films will have a series of questions at the end of each topic where the crew member will take a short quiz to ensure they have understood the content.
  • Carry out these tests and capture the results of all people trained.
  • Findings are to be recorded by the training master and sent by email to the Regional Head of Operations who will ensure the crew inspector administrator uploads the information to individual training records.
  • Training record book
  • Develop training record book to capture all courses as per the HMS training matrix relevant to the rank.
  • The training master is to ensure record books are signed and stamped either by himself or an appropriate local manager.
  • Follow up by the Regional Head of Operations is essential to ensure close out of each training intervention.

  • The training record book does not replace the electronic system (crew inspector) but a method of ensuring each individual maintains a clear record of training achieved which can be produced for auditing purposes.
  • The book should be in the possession of every deck and engineering officer in whichever port they are assigned to.
  • We are looking for

    Qualifications and Experience required

  • Master Mariner (STCW II / 2 - Master less than 500GT Unlimited Voyages)
  • Extensive ASD experience in various operations i.e. FPSO Support; Static Towing; Platform Support; SBM Operations including Hose Work; Harbour Towage etc.
  • Has preferably provided similar training to Masters and Chief Officers in the past
  • Personal attributes / skills required

  • Pro-active self-starter, team player able to work using own initiative
  • Sound people management skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Work well under pressure to tight deadlines
  • Resilient and well-organised
  • Computer literacy in Word office (outlook, excel, powerpoint)
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
