Job Role : Prosperity OfficerC4(l)

Duties andresponsibilities :

  • Use research and analysis skills, including building aneffective network of local contacts, to understand where UKcompanies may face market access or other challenges in the UAE,and the tools, including cooperation on regulatory best practiceand UK standards, which may be used to address these.
  • Work with UAE government departments, other public sectorbodies, and their UK counterparts on all aspects of the Prosperityagenda, including direct engagement on market access issues.
  • Asrequired, help facilitate formal government to government (G2G)agreements and arrangements to address challenges and realiseopportunities.

  • Contribute to theEmbassy's understanding of economic trends in the UAE,including long term government strategies to promote growth andeconomic diversification.
  • Work closely with the Embassy'sEconomy and Energy Adviser (currently based in AbuDhabi).

  • Act as secretary and focal point tothe Embassy's UAE-wide Prosperity Board, including workingeffectively with wider in-country stakeholders, including the UKScience and Innovation Network (SIN), British Council, DevolvedAdministrations (Scotland, Wales, and Northern Irelandrepresentatives at Post), and other UK organisations.
  • Produce succinct reports, including for senior staff atthe Embassy, visiting ministers and officials, and diverse UKgovernment departments in all the above areas.
  • Help arrange UK-UAE visits in both directions in supportof the above activities.
  • Maintain oversight ofthe Post's project and programme expenditure in support ofthese activities, including acting as project manager as requiredfor specific projects.
  • Work with colleagues inother Embassies in the GCC as part of the UK's GulfProsperity Network, sharing knowledge and best practice, andcooperating where required on specific projects, and with FCO, DIT,BEIS and other relevant Government Departments inLondon.

    Essentialqualifications, skills and experience

  • Good knowledge of economic and / or trade policy,including relevant higher education qualification.
  • Existing knowledge of the UK or UAE economy, and ideallyboth, with demonstrated ability rapidly to master a wide range ofeconomic and trade issues.
  • Excellentinterpersonal skills, with confidence to work on their owninitiative. Proven ability to engage and influence at a seniorlevel internally and with external contacts, and collaborateeffective across Embassy teams.
  • Ability tomulti-task and have good organisational skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and work under pressure to meetmultiple and changing priorities.
  • Fluency inEnglish, both written and spoken. Ability to express ideas andmessages clearly and concisely, both orally and in writtencommunication.
  • Ability to write to a high standard for a wide rangeof audiences.

  • Good working knowledge ofMicrosoft Office programmes.
  • Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

  • Experience of working in a similar role with asignificant responsibility in either the public or private sectorin the UK or the UAE.
  • Project managementexperience.
  • Arabic language skills.
