To develop and review syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies, assessment and teaching and learning strategies in the department.
To actively monitor and follow up student progress. To work with colleagues to formulate aims, objectives and strategic plans for the department which have coherence and relevance to the needs of the students and to the aims, objectives and strategic plans of the School.
To be accountable for the development and support delivery of the Department’s curriculum.
To keep up to date with and respond to developments in the subject area and teaching practice and methodology.
To undertake Performance Management Review(s) and to act as reviewer for a group of staff within the designated department.
To make appropriate arrangements for classes when staff are absent, ensuring appropriate cover within the department, liaising with the cover supervisor / relevant staff to secure appropriate cover.
To participate in the interview process for teaching posts when required and to facilitate induction of new staff in line with school procedures.
To promote teamwork and to motivate staff to ensure effective working relations.
To be responsible for the day-to-day management of staff within the designated department and act as a positive role model.
To establish common standards of practice within the department and develop the effectiveness of teaching and learning styles.
To contribute to the school procedures for lesson observation.
To ensure that all members of the department are familiar with departmental aims and objectives within the framework of the School Development Plan.
To ensure effective communication / consultation as appropriate with the parents of pupils.
To participate in regular training sessions as part of professional development (PD).
Support the aims and ethos of the school as reflected in the Mission Statement.
Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance.
Any additional tasks / project assigned to you by school management.

Experience of being a HoD at least 2 years
Experience of working in an Islamic faith school is preferred
Due to Covid candidates based in the Emirates are preferred but this is not essential
