Job Description

Consultant Forensic Psychotherapist

WC1X, London (Hybrid)

Permanent, Part-time, 3-5 days a week, Full-time

We are recruiting for a Consultant Forensic Psychotherapist. Our client has grown quickly from a small charity to a medium sized one in recent years and are currently finalising their next three-year strategy for 2022-2025.

They are looking for an experienced clinical psychotherapist who can lead their Forensic work as part of their Senior Team.

Supporting the Clinical Director and alongside the Midlands Service Manager, you will contribute to the next phase of the development of psychodynamically informed approach to working with harmful sexual behaviour in the lives of people with learning disabilities and autism.

We are looking for someone with significant experience of working with autistic people and people with learning disabilities who have a risk of exhibiting sexual harmful or other high risk behaviour.

Our client is a trauma informed organisation with an integrative approach including psychodynamic and systemic to all their service delivery.

Experience

Substantial experience as a psychodynamic psychotherapist working with people with multiple and complex needs who present a high risk of harm to others and themselves.

Substantial leadership experience

Understanding the underlying issues that may lead to sexually harmful behaviour

Providing forensic risk assessment / analyses and / or therapy

Substantial experience of working effectively with people with learning disabilities and / or autism

Understanding the issues connected to working in the voluntary sector

Experience of working effectively as part of a team; collaborative and supportive across the whole organisation

Managing highly complex cases

Significant post-qualifying experience working as a psychotherapist or arts therapist.

Managing a team or service

Responsibility for safeguarding children and young people.

Partnership working with agencies and statutory services.

Experience of conducting Psychotherapy or Arts Psychotherapy groups within a Forensic Setting.

Duties and Key Responsibilities

1.1 Clinical

Provide specialist clinical guidance and containment to the Forensic clinical team

Provide psychodynamic perspective to multidisciplinary teams or other supportive networks

Provide therapeutic consultancy to professional networks and teams

Participate in clinical supervision

Provide specialist forensic clinical guidance across their services

Carry out specialist forensic Risk Assessments and Therapy assessments alongside other clinical colleagues.

Coordinate the referral allocation and waiting list.

Provide Clinical Oversight to Clinical case management of Forensic cases

Provide psychotherapy to a limited number of clients

Develop therapy groups with colleagues.

Oversee and have responsibility for the treatment of high-risk clients with complex and challenging needs.

Education & Training

Masters in Psychotherapy (Psychodynamic, Child and Adolescent, Systemic), or Arts Therapy (Art Psychotherapy, Drama therapy, Music Therapy or Dance Movement Therapy).

Clinical training in Forensic psychotherapy or equivalent.

Registered with appropriate body e.g. BACP, BPC, BPS, HCPC or UKCP.

Legal requirements

Exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975.

Enhanced DBS check.
