The Culinary Arts elective will start soon in the Applied Stream and we are looking to establish a strong team to teach, develop materials and set up this elective in selected schools across the UAE.
Culinary Arts teachers are responsible for classroom and lab instruction in the fields of professional cooking; providing quality instruction for a diverse student population;
performing instructional duties and responsibilities in accordance with the philosophy, mission, policies and procedures of the Ministry.
Teaches assigned culinary courses, and associated labs; maintains written instructional standards; facilitates instruction using alternative delivery methods as needed;
informs students in writing of instructional standards; participates in the assessment of student learning outcomes; establishes,maintains and submits accurate student and instructional records in a timely manner Facilitate applied lessons in an engaging and progressive manner.
Assists in the management of the culinary arts program; plans menus, purchases food and other supplies, ensures proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices;
maintains equipment and supply inventory to include student lab uniforms.
Develops new courses, curriculum, instructional materials, and evaluation tools; reviews and updates course outlines, textbooks, laboratories and course procedure sheets for culinary courses;
assists with the preparation of course proposals, curriculum updates and the construction of programs.
Participates in culinary course scheduling, department and school meetings; serves on Ministry committees as assigned;
collaborates with the Business Development Unit, along with other managers, to review and maintain the integrity of department curriculum.
Maintains partnerships with local area restaurants to assist in arranging field experiences for students; collaborates with the community in support of college culinary events, competitions and fairs.
Applied Stream Teachers work in teams, led by Applied Stream Lead Teachers, with each member contributing to the continuous improvement of teaching and learning materials and support for students.
Applied Stream Teachers are responsible for the successful implementation of Applied Stream Curriculum across grades 9-12 and are required to do the following :
Deliver the curriculum according to 21st century teaching and learning principles.
Model and support an applied, learner-centered, hands-on classroom environment that promotes learner engagement and participation.
Ensure that students reach the expected age-related outcomes.
Create a positive, active, practical, applied learning environment.
Manage all facilities and activities related to achieve student learning.
Play a leadership role in modeling behaviour, attitudes, and learning behaviours for students.
Support the learning process by identifying needs and guiding students to achieve their learning objectives.
Ensure assessments are delivered according to the assessment strategy and guidelines, in a valid and rigorous manner.
Maintain an accurate record of student achievement and performance.
Create positive and effective relationships with colleagues.
Promote a positive teaching and learning environment in Ministry of Education (MoE) schools across the Emirates.
Facilitate applied lessons in an engaging and progressive manner.
Ensure successful implementation of the new curriculum and assessment strategy.
Participate in the monitoring and evaluation of the new curriculum and assessment strategy.
Support a Applied Stream wide reform by participating in and organising professional development sessions such as : peer-observations, model lessons, professional development workshops and any other activities that promote effective teaching and learning. Essential Functions :
Applied Stream Teachers are required to :
Work collaboratively within their school to develop a cohesive cross curricular focus.
Work in conjunction with similar subject specialists to enhance students learning and an applied focused environment.
Work extra hours to provide extra-curricular activities
Travel as required to events, training and provide cover away from their school
Be smart and present a positive image of themselves and the Applied Stream at all times
Applied Stream Teachers should be able to :
Integrate with colleagues from different cultures
Perform all aspects of their role with an understanding of the wider strategy
Plan effectively and manage their workload
Operate in arduous weather conditions (hot)
Gain the confidence and respect of Emirati personnel at all levels
Applied Stream Teachers should possess :

Food Tech Teacher Requirements
Bachelors in Culinary Arts
Bachelors in a culinary industry field
Minimum 2 years of teaching experience
Training and Assessing Qualification
Internal Verification Qualification
CELTA / DELTA
ESL teaching experience
Minimum 2 years of relevant teaching experience at a recognised educational institute.
Minimum 2 years of appropriate and relevant industry experience.
Successful teaching and assessing experience in a range of areas within the specific discipline.
Ability to use student centred, applied teaching strategies.
Proven ability to implement and evaluate high quality education & training programs Knowledge of relevant policy and educational developments in vocational education and training both locally and internationally
Sound problem solving skills
Excellent communication, liaison and interpersonal skills
Proven willingness to work effectively and to contribute to the team environment and objectives.
Proven capacity to be flexible and responsive to situations
Excellent written and verbal skills in English, for non-native speakers, a minimum of IELTs 6.0 Academic or 6.5 General
Satisfactory enhanced DBS check and references.
