Business Intelligence Engineer


1. Organisation Unit Purpose (why does the unit exist? What are the results the unit is expected to deliver?)

Data Platform is a function which requires strong alignment with the business heads to deliver the best data driven insights and craft data driven strategy for the organization.

2. Job Purpose (Why does the job exist? What is the unique contribution made by the job holder?)

BI Specialist responsibility is to translate business reporting requirements into working BI solutions that enhances user decision making capabilities, within the architectural guardrails that are set by the BI Manager.

  • Will identify and deliver BI, reporting and data analysis requirements.
  • Work closely with business stake holders and other IT teams to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound business decisions.
  • Responsible for providing data and information that is accurate, reliable and congruent, and ensure the information is easily available for direct consumption or integration with other systems.
  • Closely work with user community to determine the business requirements, priorities, define and document key performance indicator and blueprinting the solutions.
  • Interface with business and development teams to design and document high quality dashboards, reports and alerts.
  • Will have in-depth knowledge of banking domain, BI technologies and understands how data is turned into information and knowledge and how that knowledge supports or enables the business processes.

    Main Tasks

    Participate in work planning process

    Project / Work Planning

  • Participates in planning process including technical design, development, testing, and delivery of BI solutions
  • Participates in project estimation and demand management process
  • Requirements analysis and documentation

    Business Requirements and Analysis

  • Work with user community and IT teams to gather, validate, and document BI needs
  • Analyze requirements and determines optimum BI solutions to meet the needs
  • Identify and provide input to new technology opportunities that will have impact on the enterprise-wide BI systems
  • Ensure high quality BI solutions are delivered to the user community

    Solution Verification and Validation

  • Participate in planning, designing and execution of UAT / SIT
  • Review and monitor the testing process to ensure high quality deliverables
  • Provide necessary technology support to the testing teams
  • Resolve issues and bugs based on the test results
  • Ensure adherence to data quality and lineage requirements

    Metadata and Data dictionary

  • Capture and document the required business and operational metadata to enable clear data lineage
  • Version & related documentation


  • To ensure comprehensiveness design, project & process documentation
  • Implement best practices in code documentation & maintain version history across code managed throughout data platforms
  • Ensure usability of the BI Solutions

    Training and coaching

  • Assist, design and deliver end-user training and training materials as and when required

  • 5. Internal / External Relationships and Committee Memberships ( Internal relationships cover other units within the organization;

    Closely work with user community to determine the business requirements, priorities, define and document key performance indicator and blueprinting the solutions


    Share standards and collaborate on enhancing application and different platform performance


    Align with Architecture standards and collaborate on different design forums


    Work with the wider infrastructure team to ensure consistency of the deliverables.


    Align with Security standards and collaborate on different design forums


    Lower the product TCO by driving efficiency and looking for innovative alternatives

    Share and contribute to establish data modeling standards (Keys, Joins, Indexes, Partitioning etc)

    Business Metadata and Data Lineage

    Share and contribute to establish Metadata Modeling Standards across data objects

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in Banking & Finance industry
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in Business Intelligence, Data Warehouse
  • Experience in engagement with multiple management levels across technical users and business units
  • Agility in delivery
  • Managerial
  • At least 3 years of working experience using modern reporting platform such as Microsoft BI, Power BI, QlikView and QlikSense in both an analytical and development capacity.
  • Strong desire to integrate modern BI solutions and Hadoop based technologies
  • Experience working in a Financial Industry
