Job Role : Climate Change Policy ManagerC4(l)
Duties andresponsibilities :
Coordinate implementation of the Embassy’sCOP26 strategy for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), working closelywith Economic, Political, Prosperity, and Communicationscolleagues.
This will include ensuring that delivery COP26objectives supports long-term decarbonisation, and resilience& adaptation objectives in the UAE, including clean growth,energy transition, transport and industrial decarbonisation,nature-based solutions, and green finance.
Develop and implementthe Embassy’s climate change strategy for UNFCCC COP 26and longer term partnership with the UAE.
Coordinate with Whitehall colleagues on engagement withthe UAE, advising on local sensitivities and UAE priorities,including briefing for ministers and senior officials.
Reportclimate change related developments in a concise and informativemanner.
Liaise with officials in the UAEgovernment, including the Ministry of Climate Change andEnvironment on policy and operational elements of delivering COP26.
This will include advising and supporting engagement between seniorofficials (including the Heads of Mission) andMinisters.
Plan and implement engagement withnon-Government actors. This will include building relationshipswith working level contacts in the different Emirates,representatives of businesses, and climate changechampions.
Manage Ministerial and officialvisits from the UK related to COP26 and climate events in the UAE.This could include planning and advising on visit agendas,coordinating with media colleagues, and supporting in events asrequired.
Leverage incoming UK visitors to the UAE to support ourCOP26 priorities in the UAE.
Work closely withthe Expo 2020 Dubai team on the UK’s involvement andparticipation in Climate Week, taking place ahead ofCOP26.
Work closely with Chancery colleagues(e.g., Prosperity and Economics & Energy), Department forInternational Trade (DIT) colleagues (e.
g., Clean Energy andRenewables), Department for International Development (DFID; e.g.,on sustainability and development) and Science and InnovationNetwork (SIN;
e.g., on research and emerging technologies) todeliver a cross-mission approach to climate change andCOP26.
Project management of climate changeprojects in the UAE, including planning, developing, and deliveringprojects funded by the Gulf Strategy Fund.
Hold a corporate responsibility objective, such asmembership in the Embassy’s crisis responseteam.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience
A minimum of 2 years of experience working foran organisation in a relevant field, for example, working for / withnational or regional government, international organisations oragencies, preferably in climate change.
Strongunderstanding of international climate change policy, with relevantexperience including from university or previous professional workexperience.
Excellent communication skills inEnglish, both verbal and spoken. Able to express ideas and messagesclearly and concisely, both orally and in writtencommunication.
At least a bachelor’sdegree in a relevant field, for instance, Public Policy, PublicAdministration, International Relations, Climate and EnvironmentScience, etc.
Excellent relationshipdevelopment and management skills, capable of operating at allorganisational levels. Experience of developing relationships andbuilding influence with multiple stakeholders in public and privatesectors.
Recognises the importance of developing a strongprofessional network.
Cultural awareness andbusiness knowledge of the relevant market. Functional knowledge oflocal business community and trends.
Flexible,resilient, decisive, and calm under pressure. With a proven trackrecord of delivering results to a high standard within tightdeadlines.

Desirablequalifications, skills and experience
Knowledge of financial / budget management principles orprevious financial management experience.
Knowledge or experience of project management andrelevant skills.
Master’s degree ina relevant field.
