Performs a variety of complex rigging work at the plant to enable maintenance and installation work to take place on a variety of equipment, by erecting access.
Includes setting up rigging equipment, erecting scaffolding of various types, transferring to appropriate work sites, testing and checking for safety, and participating in all installation work by preparing rigging tackle and giving rigging signals to heavy duty equipment operations.
Receives instructions and work orders from Supervisor, determines lifting requirement needs for internal and external scaffolding on buildings, structures, inside heaters and vessels and arranges for all required materials, tools and equipment in accordance with specific needs.
Obtains hot and cold work permits and arranges for the transportation of pipes, boards and clips to job site.
Provides directions to assigned labourer which includes allocating work, providing advice on complex rigging and checking completed work for safety requirements.
Undertakes the erection of tubular and pre-formed box scaffolding in accordance with prescribed specifications, safety requirements and sound scaffolding practices and techniques, to provide access for maintenance personnel to high structures for a variety of purposes.
This includes directing labourers in physical erection of scaffolding, checking all erected scaffolds to ensure that all safety aspects have been taken care of before handing over for use by maintenance personnel.
Transfers scaffolding and associated equipment to rigging loft on completion of work. Maintains all scaffolding tubes, clips, boards and ladders in a safe and sound condition.
Undertakes rigging of all lifts ensuring correct rigging practice and safety of lifts at all times. Ensures that faulty scaffolding equipment is either repaired or disposed of to avoid possible hazards.
Prepares all lifting tackle of heavy duty installation work. Includes rigging and operating pull lifts, chain blocks, rope blocks, pneumatic / electric winches, re-
rigging cranes and hoist as required.
Performs rigging duties on dismantled process equipment, such as heat exchangers, condensers, large valves and pipe work.
Includes removing and replacing tubular and other damaged parts as directed.
Assists Crane Operators, when required by giving hand signals during routine work activities.
Complies with all safety and fire rules and regulations, including the use of protective clothing and equipment and maintains work location in a clean and tidy condition including removal of wastes and spillages.
Carries out other similar or related duties as assigned, such as maintaining all rigging equipment in good mechanical condition, ensuring that rigging equipment is not misused on site, assisting in statutory testing of rigging equipment as directed and notifying Supervisor of requirements for new materials.
Completion of Preparatory (9 years) education.
6 years’ experience in rigging and scaffolding work in the oil, gas or petrochemical industry.
Working knowledge of English.
Daily contact with Maintenance and Operations personnel up to Supervisor level, to acquire information on, and obtain necessary work permits to isolate and deal with, faulty mechanical equipment.
Spends more than 90% of the work time walking, standing, bending, carrying medium weight materials and equipment and using a variety of hand tools to carry out Maintenance tasks.
Exposed to prevailing weather and plant operating conditions for about 90% of the work time.
