Majid Al Futtaim Holding is seeking a Business Ethics Lead who will serve as Majid Al Futtaim’s internal control point for ethics, anti-money laundering (AML), improprieties, allegations, and conflicts of interest and will provide leadership and advice on ethics issues.
This role serves as an expert advisor to senior management at both the Holding and the operating companies in the development, implementation, and maintenance of company-wide business ethics and the observance of the company’s business ethics and compliance program.
The Business Ethics Lead must be able to work with C-level executives across Majid Al Futtaim’s operating companies (OpCo).
Key responsibilities :
Policy and Framework
Develop, implement, and maintain Business Ethics policies, guidelines, and other relevant ethics-related documentation for the organization (including for example Code of Conduct, Conflict of Interest Policy, Whistleblowing Policy, AML Framework, KYC Framework)
Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive whistleblowing program (including case substantiation, follow-up and Board of Directors reporting)
Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive compliance program
Maintain a working knowledge of relevant regulatory issues, of professional or industry substantive codes, and of applicable laws and regulations
Maintain a working knowledge of relevant business ethics issues, of professional or industry ethics codes, and of ethics conflicts resolution techniques
Identify, research, and make recommendations on policy and legislative issues for the Board of Directors’ consideration
Advise the Board of Directors on issues / topics related to ethical matters of relevance to the organization (e.g., conflict of interest, gift rules, AML, and financial disclosure matters)
Report on Compliance Performance
Establish and monitor controls and key performance indicators (KPIs) for an effective compliance program performance management
Analyze and report on the compliance program performance (including awareness level)
Carry-out compliance risk assessment and due diligence covering all areas of the Ethics policies (e.g., Code of Conduct, etc.)
Assessments and due diligences
In conjunction with Internal Audit, conduct compliance and ethics risk assessments and due diligences covering all the areas of the Code of Conduct
Conduct investigations and assessment of allegations of ethics violations and report cases to the Board of Directors as needed
Whistleblowing
Develop, implement, and maintain proper channels for employees to raise serious concerns about danger or illegality (e.g.
discrimination or harassment; breach of fundamental internal control; and departure from professional standards, etc.)
Develop and maintain confidential procedures for the handling and processing of serious concerns. Provide processes for the confidential hearing of employee
Conduct investigations. Prepare written investigative reports as necessary
Manage and coordinate activities of reporting of violations process, including substantiation, assistance, and dispatching of alleged violations
Ethics Culture, Training, and Communication Channels
Create and maintain ethic culture and environment
Integrate the corporate ethics message throughout the corporate culture
Collaborate with business units, and departments (e.g. legal, procurement, internal audit, human resources, and communications) to raise awareness of the business ethics and compliance programs and ensure accountability for adherence to the programs
Institute and maintain an effective compliance communication program for the organization, including promoting the use of the Compliance Hotline, enabling heightened awareness of Standards of Conduct, and understanding new and existing compliance issues and related policies and procedures
Oversee the development and implementation of corporate ethics training program, including appropriate introductory training for new employees as well as ongoing training for all employees and managers
Oversee the development and implementation of a compliance training program, including appropriate introductory training for new employees as well as ongoing training for all employees and managers
Develop, publish, and distribute ethics and compliance advisories, brochures, newsletters, notices, ethics pledges, posters, videos, and other media and maintain Majid Al Futtaim’s website informing senior management, employees, and the public about the Standards of Conduct and policies and the need to aspire to the highest standards of ethical behavior
Personal Characteristics and Required Background :
Skillset (job specific technical skills and behavioral competencies needed)
Experience in retail, leisure, or entertainment industries is preferred
Proven track record and experience in developing ethics and compliance policies and procedures, as well as successfully executing programs that meet the objectives of excellence in a dynamic, global environment
Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with U.K. Bribery Act, AML legislation, Ethics, Compliance and Whistleblowing, programs
Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal, and collaborative skills, as well as the ability to communicate ethics / compliance-related concepts to technical and nontechnical audiences
Exhibit the ability to manage multiple projects under strict timelines, as well as the ability to work well in a demanding, dynamic environment, and meet overall objectives
Have the ability to lead and motivate cross-functional and interdisciplinary teams to achieve tactical and strategic goals
Possess the highest level of personal integrity, as well as the ability to professionally handle confidential matters, and show the highest level of judgment and maturity
Display a high degree of initiative, dependability, and the ability to work with little supervision
Excellent command of English language skills. Knowledge of Arabic language is a plus
Minimum of ten (10) to twelve (12) years of experience in a combination of compliance, ethics, legal, or HR, preferably with an international company footprint
Minimum of four (4) years of experience in a leadership role at a senior level with supervisory role at a senior level with an employment history that demonstrates an increasing level of responsibility in large and diverse business settings
Minimum Qualifications / education
Bachelor degree in Regulatory Compliance, Law, Business Administration or related discipline
Master’s degree (e.g. MBA) with focus on courses that covers law, corporate ethics and compliance is preferred
Professional ethics and compliance certifications and memberships, such as Certification from Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE) and / or Ethics & Compliance Officer Association (ECOA)
