The Event Operations department manages activities across the event delivery of Expo 2020. Event Operations includes the following service areas : Catering, Cleaning & Waste Management, Logistics, Security, Transport & Parking, Site Management, Accreditation, Guest Services, Venue Operations, Village Accommodation Services.
Expo 2020 Customs and Freight Forwarding will manage the process in which materials / equipment sourced from outside the UAE need to be imported (and some re-
exported) via a documented Customs process. This includes a freight forwarding service from source locations overseas, and clearance through customs upon arrival in the UAE.
The reverse process of re-export through customs is required for some items. Considerations are also set in place to expedite the process when required.
Working relationships with UAE and Dubai Customs as well as the Logistics Partner is required for this service.
The main responsibilities of this role will include :
To lead the Customs & Freight workstream within the Event Operations Logistics Function, to ensure that materials and equipment, for Expo 2020 and all key stakeholders, are imported and re-
exported (where necessary) according to relevant standards and procedures necessary for event operations;
Assist and liaise with the other Logistics workstream Senior Managers (i.e. Material Management, Warehousing, Distribution, Venue Logistics, Support Services) with their C&FF requirements to support an efficient and economical end-
to-end Logistics operation;
Assist, liaise, support and work collaboratively with the Expo 2020 Official Logistics Partner in relation to the C&FF elements of the Logistics Services Agreement;
Define the short term and long term goals and objectives for the C&FF workstream and agree this with the Head of Logistics, Continuously improve Expo 2020 C&FF Processes, Policies and Procedures;
Accountable for Expo 2020 and stakeholder compliance with Federal and Emirates customs authorities as well as Dubai Trade procedures;
Via liaison and instruction from the Office of the Executive Director, approach Federal Customs, Dubai Customs, other customs bodies and government entities to ensure all applicable laws, rules and regulations are adhered to (including the See Agreement, relevant Expo 2020 Special Regulations and Customs Guidelines);
also to meet with the mentioned parties and build processes to ensure smooth transition of material / equipment into country (and out for post-event) for Expo2020;
Via training and communication, develop tools, briefings training and engagement opportunities to communicate C&FF to the other Logistics workstreams, as well as relatable to external stakeholders, including consultants, advisors and participants, ensure all operate in compliance with Corporate and International procedures and standards;
Lead the C&FF workstream responsibly and proficiently, providing effective line management to direct reports, participate in the development of a workforce plan for the C&FF workstream to ensure the availability of required resources;
Lead as the key manager and information flow between Procurement and Logistics to gain and report visibility on material / equipment and shipments touching any Logistics workstream.
10+ years experience in strategy, research, and thought development / leadership;
A Bachelors degree within a relevant field;
Strong understanding of innovation drivers and content, strong interpersonal and relationship skills;
Experience with Federal, Emirates and Dubai Customs authorities as well as Dubai Trade systems and procedures;
Experience with large scale import and export procedures, experience in management of logistics operations and supply chain.
