Job Role : Strand Leader for Medicine andSociety

My client, a prominent University basedin Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, is establishing a graduatelevel, allopathic, four-year Doctor of Medicine (MD), program, andis looking to appoint a qualified Strand Leader for Medicine andSociety to join the team

The newly establishedCollege of Medicine is committed to providing an innovative andprogressive medical education curriculum, aligned with LiaisonCommittee for Medical Education (LCME) standards, taught byglobally diverse, highly qualified and experiencedfaculty

Essential to this role is the desire totrain a new generation of medical specialists, as well ascontribute to world-class research that improves practice whiledelivering a service to the university, the community and theUnited Arab Emirates

  • The responsibilities offaculty members shall be an appropriate combination of : Dissemination of knowledge through undergraduate and / or graduateteaching;
  • and Research, scholarly or other creative activities; andAcademic service Operational Responsibilities The position callsfor a leading authority in clinical medicine and systems-basedpractice with experience in curriculum management

    Expected to have a made a substantive contribution totheir discipline, and can show evidence of innovative curriculumdevelopment, a distinguished record of teaching, and provenacademic leadership

    Teaching :

  • Participate in the development of courseoutlines for all components within the strand
  • Collaborate with other strand leaders to ensure that allprogram objectives are met
  • Track programobjectives within the strand Ensure that components within thestrand have the educational resources (e.g space, IT) to meetcourse objectives
  • Work with the Assistant Deanfor Medical Education to create the academic calendar and coursecalendars Ensure course syllabi are in compliance withinstitutional standards
  • Contribute to thedevelopment, planning and implementation of a high qualitycurriculum
  • Obtain student feedback and overseeassessments within the strand Provide reports to the curriculumcommittee regarding evaluations;
  • advise the curriculum committee inall matters related to the strand Participate in the process ofensuring administration of quality assessment and evaluation toolsEnsure timely submission of grades and evaluations Research,Scholarly and Creative

    Activities :

  • Engage inscholarly or creative activities in their area of expertise andmakes results available for critical peer review
  • Deliver papers at professional association meetings,seminars and conferences
  • Participate in panelsat regional and international meetings of professionalorganizations
  • AcademicService :

  • Contribute to departmental,or University-wide working groups or committees asrequested
  • Contribute to student recruitment,retention and placement efforts
  • Foster serviceby contributing to the community at large in participatory,developmental or advisory capacity
  • Support andparticipate in student organization activities
  • Adhere to the University's information securityand confidentiality policies and procedures, and report breaches orother security risks accordingly
  • Coordinatewith other departments to facilitate the accomplishment of tasksand responsibilities, as and when needed
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the LineManager
  • ExperienceRequired

  • Qualifications A degree inmedicine (MD or MBBS) Experience in clinical medicine andhealthcare systems, with demonstrable leadership in communityengagement
  • Demonstrable experience in teachingand mentorship at the undergraduate and postgraduatelevel
  • Demonstrable abilities to workeffectively as a member of an interdisciplinary and collegial team,well developed interpersonal skis and the ability to provideleadership and take the initiative
  • Required Experience

  • Aminimum of 5 years’ experience AND experience in teachingat a level that is relevant to the position and would have madecontributions to research and / or scholarship and / or teaching andadministrative services of an organizational unit (e.
