We are currently seeking a Commercial Head to join the Dubai office where you will be responsible for driving new business by working with governments and businesses across the region.

The Middle East and Africa is a key growth market for The Economist Group and the Commercial Head will be expected to engage with prospective clients to showcase how a media, consulting, conference and research business with a storied brand can help further their regional and global goals.

In such a relationship driven market, building personal contacts in target clients is of prime importance. This opportunity is suited to an individual who can represent The Economist Group as both a commercial and intellectual force in the region.

As commercial Head, you will also build strong relationships amongst The Economist Group global leadership team, representing the media, consulting, conference and research business areas for the MENA region and showcase The Group’s capabilities and creative solutions with clients.

Lastly the Commercial Head will provide senior leadership in the Dubai office, motivating the team and driving cross-business unit collaboration.

While there will be some direct line management, the Group runs a matrix structure and the role also requires the sensitivity to motivate and direct staff in other teams whilst respecting business unit specific reporting lines and structures.

Accountabilities

How you will contribute :

  • Lead The Economist Group’s commercial operations in the Middle East and Africa
  • Drive revenue growth across the region within the media, consulting, conferences and research businesses
  • Oversee the development of new business through chasing leads; identifying potential clients and implementing a communication / sales strategy to win business
  • Develop solutions that meet client marketing, communication, research and consulting needs
  • Work with global leadership to ensure the best The Economist Group has to offer is fully represented to clients in the Middle East and Africa
  • Directly manage a team of sales and service delivery colleagues in Dubai, with a particular focus on nurturing a high-performing, revenue-generating team
  • Lead the Dubai office and encourage and shared purpose which unites the existing matrix and global business unit structures
  • Build and enhance new and existing client and agency relationships for The Economist Group’s global products and services
  • Experience, skills and professional attributes

    The ideal skills for this role include :

  • Extensive experience within a senior commercial leadership position and a proven track record of selling to C-Suite stakeholders and driving new revenue streams
  • Extensive experience of working within the Middle East & Africa region
  • The creativity needed to respond to client needs by designing engagements and utilising assets from across The Economist Group
  • The leadership skills to motivate and direct a local team within a complex, matrix structure
  • Proven ability to sell solutions (going beyond product selling) to senior government, financial services, corporate and foundation stakeholders
  • In-depth knowledge of the Middle East and Africa media, consulting, conferences and sponsorship markets
  • Familiarity with the corporate, financial, professional, academic and government sectors within the region
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Arabic is preferable
  • Strong integrity and values
  • Strong sales, negotiation, presentation and organization skills
  • Self-motivation and capability of setting challenging goals for yourself and a high-performing team
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced, collegiate environment
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and Salesforce
  • The flexibility to travel
