RAK Academy is seeking a dynamic andcommitted Assistant Headteacher (Inclusion) to join us for theAcademic Year in 2021-2022.

Over the past five years RAK AcademyFamily of Schools has grown significantly and our reputation fordeveloping academic achievement and is well known as one of theinternational school of choice in Ras Al Khaimah.

Job Purpose :

The Assistant Head (Inclusion), under the direction of theHead of School, will play a major role in formulating the aims andobjectives of the school.

They will establish policies forachieving these aims and objectives and manage staff and resourcesto monitor progress towards the achievement of theschool’s aims and objectives.

KeyResponsibilities :

School Improvement

  • Support the Head of School, ExecutivePrincipal and RAK Academy Board in promoting and developing avision for the future of the school, demonstrating inspirationalleadership and creativity.
  • Play a significantrole in the school improvement planning process, taking account ofthe agreed priorities of the school.
  • Contribute to the identification of key areas of strengthand weakness in the school with detailed reflection on day to dayworking knowledge of the school’s policies andpractices.
  • Exemplify the application of agreedpolicies, priorities and expectations, so as to provide anexcellent role model for all colleagues.
  • Develop and enhance a culture of teamwork, in which viewsof members of the school community are valued andconsidered.
  • Contribute to the self-evaluationof the school.
  • Inclusion and Wellbeing (SEND, EAL,G&T)

  • Lead onall aspects of assessment and identification of barriers tolearning.
  • Provide oversight, direction andsupport to the SENCO and EAL Coordinator to ensure support iseffectively targeted, planned for and delivered to meet the needsof all learners.
  • Ensure that all studentsrequiring additional support are identified and their learningtargets are robustly reviewed.
  • Lead onscheduling and facilitating reviews for students with additionalneeds.
  • Lead on the strategic implementationand review of Individual Education Plans to meet the needs of alllearners.
  • Provide leadership and direction formiddle leaders to enable them to provide targeted and appropriatestrategies and differentiation to raise standards in Early YearsFoundation Stage(EYFS), Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
  • Analyse progress, attainment and achievement data for allchildren with English as an Additional Language ensuring thecorrect level of support is provided individually andcollectively.
  • Lead on the identification ofchildren with additional Gifts and Talents ensuring that theirunique needs are planned for and delivered.
  • Recommend and implement appropriate internal supportstructures to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Ensure that data generated by assessments are accurateand facilitate additional student assessments to identify anybarriers to learning.
  • Ensure that students areaware how they will become successful learners by achieving theirIndividual Education Plan targets.
  • Coordinateand facilitate external professionals who contribute to studentdevelopmental needs through planning and reviewmeetings.
  • BehaviourAttendance and Punctuality

  • Support the inclusion of all learners into school byleading on issues associated with attendance andabsence.
  • Support all staff to work withlearners in creative ways to promote regular, punctual, purposefulattendance.
  • Ensure that the main class teacheris the focal point and a valued, well-informed contact for allparents and carers.
  • Have an enthusiasm whichmotivates and supports all staff and encourages a sharedunderstanding of the contribution they can make to all aspects oflearners lives.
  • To maintain and developeffective communication and links with parents and to provide asolution focused approach regarding learners’ well-beingand achievement.
  • Have strategic oversight inthe implementation of school monitoring systems as they refer toanalysis and evaluation of student care and achievement.
  • Lead on student voice to appropriately reflect theaspirations of all learners in the school community.
  • Provide guidance, oversight and support to the StudentLeadership Coordinator to ensure academy-wide student voiceinitiatives are fully supported.
  • Teaching andLearning

  • Maintain ahigh profile as an example of best and leading practice within theclassroom demonstrating how individual learner needs can be met inan inclusive classroom environment.
  • Ensurebest practice is informed by empirical research continuously usingin-house expertise to ensure ongoing professionaldevelopment.
  • Ensure that suitable professionaldevelopment opportunities are available, budgeted, and cascaded,with appropriate evaluation to maximize impact on individual andcollective student outcomes.
  • Provide supportand training for key front-line staff in the different pedagogicalapproaches to overcoming specific barriers to learning.
  • Attend Middle Management meetings and / or Departmentalmeetings to promote specific CPD in accordance with schoolpolicy.
  • Foster a whole school commitment toengage in school focused CPD, which is effective and relevant tothe inclusion of learners with additional needs inclusive ofEnglish as an Additional Language and Gifted and Talentedlearners.
  • Ensure robust systems exist wherebyall staff can benefit from the collation and dissemination ofexceptional inclusive practice.
  • Ensure thatall members of the school community have access to a range ofinduction and continuing professional learning opportunities inrelation to inclusion of all.
  • Advocate for alllearners and challenge all colleagues to work in alternative waysto help every student achieve their own potential.
  • Accountability

  • Work alongside the School Improvement Partner(Inclusion) to timetable appropriate and comprehensive observationcoverage.
  • Monitor the impact of teaching andlearning on inclusion through teachers planning, work sampling andscrutiny.
  • Ensure that monitoring informseffective adaptation and relevant next steps inlearning.
  • Provide monitoring data to theSchool Leadership Team for audit purposes related to teaching andlearning approaches across stages.
  • Oversee andfacilitate pre planned learning walks between class teachers andthe inclusion team.
  • Oversee and coordinatefeedback.
  • Specific SMART targets in support ofthe SIP, as indicated by the Head of School .
