Structural Engineer (Design) prepares schematic and detailed designs for structural projects, based on the concept design.
The Structural Engineer receives guidance and instructions from the Senior Project Engineer and typically performs the work alone or as part of a team of Engineers, Designers and CAD Operators.
Structural Engineer (Design) must ensure that the design meets the requirements of the client, local authorities and engineering standards and codes of practice.
Support the Senior Project Engineer in planning team responsibilities and providing clearly defined tasks for each team member.
Monitor project spent hours and design cost according to allocated budget. Raise progress reports to Section Manager and highlight over-
use of hours for appropriate action.
Prepare schematic design for projects in area of specialty according to the approved concept, up to final design stages to prepare a complete set of drawings for tendering.
Ensure that calculations, drawings and models are registered on the server in a central, easily accessible location, for future reference.
Perform detailed check of the design project on a regular basis and at different stages of the project and provide checking reports to the Senior Project Engineer.
Coordinate internally with other sections and disciplines to ensure that the design requirements of the disciplines are included in the structural design.
Attend internal and external meetings, in order to share information and take actions on technical matters and update the team on project progress.
Prepare technical reports in order to give the Senior Project Engineer clear and accurate information on the current work status.
Supervise the progress of the project through reports prepared by the Engineers in the team
Review reports like soil investigation report, wind tunnel report and recommendations from specialists and adjust the design accordingly, under the supervision of the Senior Project Engineer.
Prepare drawings for authority submittal, ensure adherence to local authoritys guidelines and maintain regular follow up until approval is obtained.
Collect all authorities requirements on a regular basis and distribute to colleagues in the Department.
Provide efficient and effective site back-up support under direct supervision from the Senior Project Engineer through the following actions : attend to RFIs and provide practical design solutions for site problems, revise drawings according to new client or authority requirements and support the Senior Project Engineer with value engineering.
Learn from own and others experience in order to increase capability and skill level and lower the risk of repeating similar mistakes.
Prepare weekly reports to the Senior Project Engineer on the performance of employees working under direct supervision to give the right and accurate feedback for decision making by higher levels.
Perform QA / QC activities for own designs and that of peers and the team in order to deliver error free designs.
Guide subordinates in order to integrate them in the work and train them to ensure their continuous skill level improvement.
Maintain necessary regular follow up with Engineers in external offices during each of the design stages to check the drawings and related documents.
