Department Definition

The Contracts Department is responsible for post-contract administration for both strategic and tactical projects, including payment certification, claims management, and contract change / variation management.

Opportunity Responsibilities

The Claims Manager (Strategic) is responsible for the implementation of robust contract and commercial processes in relation to claims for all Strategic Projects at Expo2020.

The main responsibilities included in this role will include :

  • Define the short, medium and long-term goals and objectives for the function and agree with VP / Head of Contracts;
  • Consistently review strategy for process improvement to ensure alignment with EXPO2020 vision and mission;
  • Develop and implement policy & procedures related to administration of claims and define and prioritise departmental business objectives and KPI’s for Contracts Strategic;
  • Review the day-to-day commercial activities in relation to claims liaising with Real Estate, Finance and other stakeholders as necessary, review as well as report on quantum impact analysis, schedule impact analysis, construction defect inspections and analysis and expert opinion reports;
  • Observe and follow the requisite processes as set forth in the department’s Governance Manual and feedback for its continuous improvement as required;
  • Assist in the Leadership of the Strategic Real Estate and Delivery / main contractors section responsibly and proficiently, providing effective line management to direct reports if required.
  • Skills

  • 8+ years relevant experience, including demonstrated ability to provide guidance on construction claims, contractual, legal and financial issues related to Construction Projects;
  • A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying / Civil Engineering / Law / Finance;
  • An understanding the methodology to preparing or reviewing claims; ability to perform legal research on construction claims issues to support expert opinions;
  • A general knowledge of law and specialist knowledge of the law of contract. Experience in contract administration and in the advice and settlement of contractual matters, disputes and claims;
  • The ability to organise the work associated with the project process and to influence others, together with skills of an administration function.
