AECOM is currently seeking to hire Senior Urban Designer to be based at Dubai.
The Senior Urban Designer works within the studio team to provide technical expertise on allocated urban design projects.
The role includes the application of architecture and urban design skills along with project coordination responsibilities.
The Senior Urban Designer works closely with senior staff including the Project Manager (PM) to produce and refine reports and product in accordance with the project scope, as well as providing a leadership role with the team to deliver smaller projects or specific tasks within larger projects.
The Senior Urban Designer must be flexible and able to work both independently and within the team, usually within tight timeframes within the parameters of each project.
The Senior Urban Designer will work with colleagues within DP+E including planners, architects, economists, environmental planners, landscape architects, graphic designers and other disciplines, as well as colleagues across the Building and Places group and all of AECOM, to deliver integrated services on a range of projects.
This role requires flexibility to be able to participate in a range of projects (type and scale). This role may also require input to proposals to assist in winning future work
As a key member of the studio, the Senior Urban Designer shall actively and positively contribute to the overall functioning of the studio on a daily basis
Job Details :
Coordinate activities of the team prepare to concept, structure and illustrative master plans for planned communities, mixed use residential and resorts, themed entertainment and residential sub-divisions.
Participate in urban design workshops with clients and other design and specialist consultants.
Support the Director in the marketing and procurement of urban master planning services to existing and new practice clients.
Work with the allocated project manager to produce project reports, drawings, and other documents to meet client deadlines as outlined by the PM, and act as a deputy project manager for some projects
Participate in the successful operation and management of the project team.
Liaising and coordination of projects with the Associate Principal / Leader.
Provide specific technical expertise in land use planning and work within a team of planners, urban designers, landscape architects and engineers to complete land development, master planning, and strategic planning projects.
Develops zoning codes, plot regulations and guidelines for master planned communities based on project vision and client requirements while ensuring broader compliance (where relevant) with local government regulations.
As part of urban development project work and working with planners, able to prepare detailed datasets on proposed plans that reflects proposed land uses, densities, land development statistics, etc.
This also includes estimating populations, demographics and community facilities based on the project brief.
Lead and manage complex technical projects and multi-disciplinary teams to successful conclusions / outcomes on a project-
by-project basis. Account for the budget, programme and general performance associated with such projects.
Managing master planning and urban design projects for company clients. Able to coordinate teams and support staff in the production of internal master plans / urban design outputs.
Prepare and deliver presentations to clients and government (approving agencies to advance approvals of development, Master Plans, Development Guidelines and policies.
Ensures timely delivery of quality designs through good organization, application of oral, graphic and written communication skills (prepares reports, graphics and presentations).
Liaise with government agencies and other authorities as may be required regarding development objectives, policies and procedures.
Work both independently and within a team environment with a solid understanding of other planning and design disciplines such as urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture and engineering.
Ensures that the project and designs are completed according to time and budget.
Ensure compliance with the company’s Quality Assurance policies and procedures.
Assist the Associate Principal in identification and pursuit of business development opportunities, and growth of the business through new and repeat clients
Prepare proposals and qualification documents in the interest of obtaining new assignments.
Assist the Associate Principal leader in recruiting appropriately qualified and experienced staff members.
Provide such further assistance to senior management as may be required from time to time.
Prepare and present submissions / reports for planning scheme amendments.
Provide effective representation for the organisation, developing and managing relationships with the client and other local authorities.
Specific Skills Required :
Promising portfolio of work which demonstrates technical capabilities in design, visualization, and graphic production
Strong Urban Planning / Design or architecture and project management skills.
Knowledge of contemporary design trends, techniques, materials and state-of-the-art’ practice
Consistent delivery of a high quality of product in specialty area or administrative function
Strong communication skills and demonstrates initiative in client service
Software skills in relevant packages including Microsoft Office, Adobe Design Collection, Revit, AutoCAD and ArcGIS Suite
Proficiency in 2D and 3D platforms
Hand drawing skills
Proven ability in self direction on day-to-day tasks
Exhibits commitment to teambuilding and fostering positive office morale by active participation in multi-disciplinary teams.

Good knowledge of local / regional market and some contacts would be preferred.

Management experience is required as the successful candidate would lead a multi-disciplinary small team.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Design, or Town Planning would be preferred.
Recognised professional qualification or membership or Master’s Degree in urban design / urban planning / landscape architecture.
RTPI membership would be advantageous.
