Job Purpose

  • Primary function is to maximize recoveries and minimizelosses on Bank’s classified loans and exposures that may have resulted from : (a) problems or business failures of the borrowers : (b) Bank’s own poor lendingpractices and / or irresponsible account management.
  • Responsible for achieving measurable targets for recoveriesset forth.
  • Managing a portfolio of classified borrowers (NP-1 &worse) directly or indirectly at CIBG (Domestic) and / or CIBG (Overseas).
  • Itrequires specialized workout skills in addition to experience, know-how andexpertise of a Credit Manager (CM) as well as a Relationship Manager (RM).

  • Perform CM’s role when assessing borrower’s operations,financial position, management strengths and cash-flows etc. in case ofrestructurings, and RM’s role when providing guidance / support to other RMs atCIBG.
  • Negotiate with a wide range of problem borrowers from individualsto small traders to large industrial units or in case of syndications withother banks too.
  • Managing or assisting in managing restructured / rescheduledborrowers, evaluating various legal and other measures with in-
  • house / externalcounsels and making recommendations for credit / special actions, and to followon the progress of approved credit / special actions (including court cases etc).

  • Evolve recovery / remedial / legal strategies, process andobtain the necessary approvals and implement related action plans as approved.
  • Refer cases to external vendors (collection agencies, lawfirms, etc.) within and outside UAE in order to maximize recovery from overduecustomers.
  • Manage the vendor relationship and ensure optimal cost vs return onthe cases referred to such vendors.

  • Review assigned portfolio for rationalization and torecommend and process approvals for charge-off and subsequent follow up on suchwritten off accounts to ensure recoveries there-from.
  • The specialized negotiation and work out skills required forthis job are usually acquired through years of credit, lending and collectionsexperience (8+ years) along with a strong working knowledge of the variouslegal and regulatory frameworks the Bank operates in.
  • Key Result Areas

  • Set recovery targets after review of classified portfolioand get it agreed to by Head - Recoveries and Head CCRD and ensure that therecovery targets are achieved.
  • Work-out recovery strategies and action plans and recommend / obtain approval for the same for implementation.
  • Monitor the classified portfolio on an ongoing basis andinitiate appropriate remedial measures as warranted by improvement / deterioration.
  • If needed, participate along with CIBG RMs in negotiationswith borrowers. This also includes onsite visits to borrowers’ place ofbusiness to evaluate proposals for restructuring and revival of the problemprojects with special attention to cash flow capabilities and assessment offinancial strength.
  • Keep abreast of developments in political, legal andeconomical fields of the UAE and various overseas locations the bank operatesin.
  • Institute and monitor legal actions against willfuldefaulters. It is necessary to befamiliar with the legal framework and have the know-
  • how to recommend nextcourse of action. In consultation with Bank’s legal officers to evaluateeffectiveness of external legal counsels and their fees structure.

  • Review portfolio for ongoing rationalization throughwrite-offs.
  • Involvement in the provisioning requirements of theclassified portfolio which has a direct impact on Bank’s profitability.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Business graduate from a recognized institution, coupledwith (preferably) a legal background.
  • Broad and active experience (10+ years) in Collections orRecoveries with a reputed bank / financial institution.
  • Good working knowledge of the Laws and bankingregulations / practices (UAE and other locations bank operates in) is arequirement for this job.
  • Laws, rules and regulations in the UAE and variousoverseas locations are different, which this position is to keep abreast withfor effective remedial management.

  • Excellent work out / negotiating skills.
  • Bilingual (English / Arabic), with good command over spokenand written English and Arabic.
  • Computer literate.
