ALDAR Academies are currently seeking for an outstandingSchool Counselor for Al Mamoura Academy commencing September 2018.
The schoolis a high achieving British Curriculum school from FS1 to year 10. The mainpurpose of the role is to provide professional leadership and management forthe department in order to secure high quality teaching and learning, effectiveuse of resources and improved standards of learning and achievement for allstudents.
The School Counselors will assist students with personal,family, educational, mental health, or career problems. The counselors will advocatefor students and work with other individuals and organizations to promote theacademic, career, personal, and social development of the student.
Counselors will help students evaluate their abilities,interest, talents, and personalities to develop realistic academic and careergoals.
Counselors use interviews, counselling sessions, interest and aptitudeassessment tests, and other methods to evaluate and advise students and socialdevelopment problems or special needs.
MAIN ACCOUNT-ABILITIES :
Help students enhance personal, social, and academicgrowth
Monitor the progress of individual students
Make contact with parents to discuss student behavior
Take steps to prevent bullying and support victims ofbullying
Help students develop job search skills, such as resumewriting and interviewing techniques
Help students understand and deal with social, behavior,and personal problems
Emphasize preventive and developmental counselling toprovide students with life skills needed to deal with problems before theyworsen and to enhance students’ personal, social, and academic growth.
Provide special services such as conflict resolutionclasses; identify cases of domestic abuse and other family problems that canaffect a student’s development
GROUP COUNSELLING :
Identifies areas that would be appropriate forintervention in the form of group counselling and regularly forms and leadsappropriate groups.
Utilizes both large (classroom) groups and small groupsto make appropriate academic and behavioral interventions.
CAREER COUNSELING :
Coordinates with the Counselors regarding career optionsfor students and provides appropriate information to students regardingcareers.
Assists the counselors in providing students withinformation for career exploration and selection to assist them in makingappropriate academic course selections relating to their interests.
Maintains an appropriate library / database relating tovarious careers for students to utilize in their career explorations.
PERSONAL COUNSELLING :
Works with individual students and groups of students inregards to appropriate social development issues.
Maintains an awareness of cultural influences regardingsocial development of adolescents.
Monitors students who may be at risk in regards to socialissues and makes appropriate referrals for interventions outside of school inconsultation with parents.
2 Years of experience in school counselling or other counselling experience required
Advanced degree in related field (social work, psychology, sociology)
Appropriate license to carryout student counselling
Strong interpersonal skills with both students and parents
Demonstrable organizational skills
Strong desire to help others and should be able to inspire respect, trust, and confidence
Must possess high emotional and physical energy to handle the array of problems addressed.
